Tattoo Removal Made Safe and Effective
How tattoo removal worksAs soon as you get a tattoo, your body will start trying to remove it. Ink is a foreign substance, and your immune system reacts the same way that it would to a cold or any other kind of infection. You know this is happening because even though a tattoo will start out perfect and pristine, it won’t take long before it starts getting faded and hazy looking. This is your body trying to remove the tattoo ink. It isn’t able to, however, since many of the ink particles are too large for the body to move.
What laser removal does is simply make the process that is already happening work better, faster and far easier. The lasers will shatter the ink into small particles so that your body is able to effectively clear it from your system. How tattoo removal lasers worksThere are currently two types of lasers used for tattoo removal. This is the nanosecond q-switched laser like the RevLite SI and the picosecond laser from PicoSure. Both break down tattoo ink into small enough particles for the body to take them away, though the PicoSure is able to smash them into even smaller particles, speeding up the process considerably. Traditionally, laser treatments have taken between ten and fifteen sessions. Using the PicoSure and our T2 method, Tataway has been able to get results in between three and eight sessions.
Most facilities have only a single q-switched device. We go further, and because we have two different lasers we are able to use our own multi-wavelength protocols that allow us to expedite your removal, saving you both time, money and visits. In the T2 method, we use both the RevLite and PicoSure laser to shatter your tattoo ink. We are able to modify the wavelengths of our lasers in five different ways, which allows us to work on a variety of skin types and colors.
5 factors that affect the tattoo removalThe laser used and the technician that performs your removal will obviously be important, but there are five other major factors that will determine how quickly their treatments work.
These factors are:
- 95% of laser removal is actually done by your own immune system, so the health of your immune system is of utmost importance.
- Connected to that, your own health and lifestyle will affect removal results.
- Your age will have an effect on removal.
- Different inks will be easier or harder to remove. This depends largely on the ingredients of the ink.
- How the ink was applied in the first place. Whether the tattoo was homemade, or applied by a professional will naturally affect the amount of ink, the pressure used, and the type of needle used to make the application. All these will have an effect on how your body releases the ink.
Healthy SuggestionsAt Tataway, we encourage our clients to adopt a healthy lifestyle to improve and speed up the tattoo removal process. This saves you time and money, and makes our job 100% easier.
- Get regular exercise
- Eat healthy food
- Stay hydrated—drink water regularly
- Be moderate with alcohol
- Refrain from tobacco use. This is a very important factor. Smoking slows down the removal of ink by 40%.
- Refrain from coffee and other forms of caffeine.
- Use SPF 30+ sunscreen with a 15% zinc content.
By taking care of yourself and your skin, you will be able to make the removal process go much more quickly and easily for yourself
AgeBoth the age of the client and the age of the tattoo will have a major affect on the ease of removal. Like everything else, the skin ages with time, making it both harder to tattoo and more difficult to remove ink. Also, because the treatment depends largely on a person’s own immune system to remove a tattoo, it will naturally depend on the strength of that person’s immune system.
The effect of the tattoo’s age is smaller but it is still a factor to consider. The length of time that the tattoo has been in the skin can mean that it may have sunk further into the dermis and become more difficult to remove. Location of the tattooYour body uses the lymphatic system to carry away the ink released. Lymph and white blood cells encapsulate the particles of tattoo ink. The ink is then carried away so that it can be flushed from the body completely.
The location of a tattoo on the body will have a major impact on removal and healing from removal. Generally, the further the tattoo is from the heart and the major lymphatic centers, the longer it will take to fully heal. As a result, tattoos on the extremities will take longer to heal. Color and composition of inkThere haven’t been any inks regulated by the FDA for tattoos. As a result, the quality of the inks used can vary widely, and this variance can make removal more difficult to remove. In addition, this variance means that we won’t know precisely how the ink will react to our lasers until we’ve begun treatment. Methods of tattooingTattooing is both art and artistry, and both the type of artwork that you have and the application of the tattoo in the first place. Skilled practitioners can precisely place the tattoo ink between the dermis and epidermis. In any case, tattooing is invasive and the needles that are used as well as how they are used will both be a factor in your removal and your recovery.
